CHEROKEE PRESERVATION FOUNDATION WILL CONDUCT
COMMUNITY MEETINGS FOR GRANT APPLICANTS OCTOBER 27-31

Grant Applications Will Be Accepted October 10 – December 2

CHEROKEE, NC, September 29, 2003 — The Cherokee Preservation Foundation announced today that it will hold a series of community meetings October 27 – 31, 2003, in the region’s westernmost counties to help prospective grantees understand what kinds of grants the Foundation wants to make and the information that the Foundation will require applicants to provide.

Qualified applicants must submit new applications between October 10 and December 2, 2003, to be eligible for the Foundation’s spring 2004 grant cycle. The Cherokee Preservation Foundation supports community efforts to enhance the culture, economy, employment opportunities and environment of the Cherokee community and the seven counties in western North Carolina (Haywood, Jackson, Swain, Macon, Clay, Graham and Cherokee counties).

The community meetings will be held on the following dates:

  • October 27 — Cherokee, Holiday Inn, 10 a.m. – noon
    Sylva, Jackson County Justice Center, Room 203, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • October 28 — Waynesville, Haywood County Public Library (downstairs), 10 a.m. – noon
  • October 31 — Murphy, Murphy Power Board Building, 10 a.m. – noon
    Robbinsville, Robbinsville Community Building, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

About the Cherokee Preservation Foundation

The Cherokee Preservation Foundation was established on November 14, 2000, as part of the Second Amendment to the Tribal-State Compact between the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the State of North Carolina. The Cherokee Preservation Foundation is an independent nonprofit foundation funded by the EBCI from gaming revenues generated by the Tribe. The Foundation is not part of or associated with any for-profit gaming entity.
