CHEROKEE PRESERVATION FOUNDATION WILL CONDUCT
COMMUNITY MEETINGS FOR GRANT APPLICANTS MAY 6 9;
Grant Applications Will Be Accepted May 1 June 11
CHEROKEE, NC, April 18, 2002 The Cherokee Preservation Foundation announced today that it will hold a series of community meetings May 6 though 9 in the region’s westernmost counties to help prospective grantees understand what kinds of grants the foundation wants to make and the information that the foundation will require applicants to provide.
Qualified applicants must submit new applications between May 1 and June 11 to be eligible for the foundation’s Fall grant cycle in 2003. The Cherokee Preservation Foundation supports community efforts to enhance the culture, economy, employment opportunities and environment of the Cherokee community and the seven counties in Western North Carolina in which its tribal lands are located (Haywood, Jackson, Swain, Macon, Clay, Graham and Cherokee counties).
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation will award up to $5 million during 2003. Applicants can apply for as many as one small grant (under $20,000) and one large grant ($20,000 or more) during the Fall cycle.
The community meetings will be held on the following dates:
- May 6, Holiday Inn, Cherokee, 10:00 to noon
- May 6, Justice Center (Room 203), Sylva, 2:00 to 4:00
- May 7, Haywood County Public Library, Waynesville, 2:00 to 4:00
- May 8, Robbinsville Community Building, 2:00 to 4:00
- May 9, Murphy Power Board Building, 2:00 to 4:00
About the Cherokee Preservation Foundation
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation was established on November 14, 2000, as part of the Second Amendment to the Tribal-State Compact between the EBCI and the State of North Carolina. It is an independent non-profit foundation funded by the EBCI from gaming revenues generated by the tribe. The Cherokee Preservation Foundation is not part of or associated with any for-profit gaming entity.
