CHEROKEE, NC, March 29, 2004 Cherokee Preservation Foundation (CPFdn) has been named a Silver Award winner for excellence in communications by the 2004 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards program sponsored by the Council on Foundations. The awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs. CPFdn received the award for its web site (www.cherokeepreservationfdn.org).
“Cherokee Preservation Foundation’s purpose is to improve the quality of life of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and strengthen the western North Carolina region,” said Susan Jenkins, CPFdn’s executive director. “Our web site helps us familiarize our target audience with Cherokee Preservation Foundation’s mission and eligibility requirements, and it also helps our audience understand that the Foundation is more than a provider of funds. We are a convener that works to develop partnerships and bring additional resources into western North Carolina, and it is gratifying that the Council on Foundations has recognized our outreach efforts.”
The award will be presented at the Annual Conference of the Council on Foundations in Toronto on April 27. Entries to the awards program included web sites, annual and biennial reports, magazines and public information campaigns.
