From what I understand the purpose for the group project is not that the results of the project benefit a cultural entity but that the project and intentions of the project it’s self be based in culture tradition. Some examples I have been given are working with the Cherokee Day of Caring because of its likeness to the tradition of ga-du-gi, or working on project with the community clubs because of the traditions of community clubs within the culture. Raising money has a disconnect to traditional culture. Your mentors are adamant about not telling you what exactly your project should be or where to find the ideas because they want the group project to be your creation; however they do want you to experience a form of Cherokee culture as a part of the project.

Hello all, I hope all is going well with everyone. As everyone knows I made a suggestion to perform the group project by helping the Special Olympics of Cherokee which will hold the North Carolina Regional games for 2010 and 2011. I have covered all the basis and as far as I know all the complaints as they deal with cultural and community aspects with Tom. As most of you have already received the email from Emily in reference to the mandatory conference call on the 23rd. I would request that if possible you give me a call on Monday the 16 at my office so I may discuss some issues with you. If you would prefer to stop by for those of you who might be in Cherokee that is also fine. I am located in the old central schools building at the Cherokee Boys Club right in front of the Church. Just ask for the Cherokee Alcohol Law Enforcement Division and somebody will direct you. If you cant stop by my office my phone number is 554-6370 and my cell is 226-2881. I think we can solve a lot of the issues and complaints prior to any further intervention from the fellowship or mentors. We have lacked a uniform stance from us and until we present a solidified front and plan to them this will not be solved. We can solve this problem in short order I think if I can speak to each of you. If Monday is not good and you wish to call please just shoot me an email at geraball@nc-cherokee.com I look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks in advance Gerard
