Ga-du-gi Community Report

Read the new ga-du-gi 2013 report to the community to learn about investments in youth that Cherokee Preservation Foundation has made on behalf of members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.  Ga-du-gi means "helping hands" in Cherokee.  The stories in this year's report are about the Cherokee Youth Council, summer culture and language camps, the Cherokee Trails project, and an entrepreneurship curriculum being developed to give young people a means to stay and prosper in Western North Carolina.

Cherokee Preservation Foundation Announces 21 Spring 2013 Grants Totaling $1 Million

Cherokee Preservation Foundation announced it has awarded 21 new grants totaling $1 million that support cultural preservation, economic development, job creation and environmental preservation.

Jones-Bowman Program Is Accepting Nominations

The Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Program is recruiting undergraduate college students who are members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to participate in its 2013-14 program. The deadline for nominations is May 6. The program provide opportunities for students to develop strong leadership abilities.

New Interactive Report about Place-Based Grantmaking

Cherokee Preservation Foundation has been making grants on tribal lands and neighboring rural communities for ten years.  From Transactional to Transformational is a new interactive report with videos and photo galleries that describes some of the unique challenges of place-based grantmaking on tribal lands and rural communities, and highlights strategies for success distilled from Cherokee Preservation Foundation’s experience.
